FAQs
What is the difference between 100% cotton and cotton-polyester blend tablecloths?
Pure cotton tablecloths have a softer hand feel and absorb moisture more readily, which makes them comfortable for everyday dining. Cotton-polyester blends resist wrinkling and shrinkage better than pure cotton and often require less ironing. If your priority is a natural texture and breathability, choose 100% cotton. If you want less maintenance between washes, a cotton-polyester blend is the more practical option.
Do cotton tablecloths shrink after washing?
Cotton is a natural fiber and can experience minor shrinkage, typically 2 to 4 percent, after the first wash. Our cotton tablecloths are cut with extra allowance to account for this. To minimize further shrinkage, wash in cold or warm water and avoid high-heat drying. Pre-washing before the first use can help settle the fabric so subsequent washes cause almost no additional change.
Are cotton tablecloths wrinkle-resistant?
Pure cotton naturally creases and wrinkles more than polyester or synthetic blends. For a smoother look straight out of the wash, remove the tablecloth promptly and smooth it by hand while slightly damp, or use a warm iron. Cotton-polyester blends hold a smoother finish with less effort. Many buyers who prefer an effortless look choose our cotton-blend options for dining rooms where frequent washing is needed.
What thread count do your cotton tablecloths use?
Our cotton tablecloths are woven at a mid-range thread count that balances durability with a soft drape. Higher thread counts feel smoother but can be stiffer for casual dining, while very low thread counts may feel rough. The range we use is chosen to hold up to regular laundering without thinning, while still feeling comfortable for daily meals.
Do cotton tablecloths work on a 55-inch rectangle table?
Yes. Our rectangle cotton tablecloths come in 55x70, 55x84, 55x90, 55x108, and 55x120 inch sizes. For a 55-inch-wide table, a 55-inch-wide cloth will drape flat to the edges with minimal overhang. If you want a standard 6 to 8 inch drop on each side, you would need a wider cloth, which we do not currently stock. The 55-inch width suits most standard dining tables and 6-foot rectangular tables when a light drape is preferred.
Can cotton tablecloths go in the dryer?
Yes. Tumble dry on low or medium heat. High heat can accelerate shrinkage and weaken cotton fibers over time. Removing the cloth while it is still slightly damp and laying it flat or hanging it to finish drying will reduce wrinkles and help maintain the fabric's shape.
Which cotton tablecloth sizes fit a table that seats 6 to 8 people?
For a 6-person table (typically 60 to 72 inches long), a 55x84 or 55x90 inch cotton tablecloth provides a 6 to 9 inch drop on each end. For an 8-person table (typically 72 to 84 inches long), a 55x108 inch cloth gives a 12 to 18 inch drop, which reaches near the chair seats. If you prefer floor-length on a standard 30-inch-tall table, the 55x120 inch size will reach close to the floor.
Are cotton tablecloths stain-resistant?
Pure cotton is absorbent, which means spills can soak in quickly if not treated promptly. Cotton-polyester blends offer slightly better resistance to liquid penetration. For high-traffic dining, pretreating the cloth with a fabric protector spray adds a barrier against stains. Blotting spills immediately and washing within the same day gives the best chance of full stain removal.
